Saying your Shahada is one of the most profound moments of your life. In just a few words, you have made the most important decision you will ever make. Alhamdulillah — all praise is due to Allah. But once the moment passes, it is completely normal to wonder: what do I do now? Here are your first gentle steps. Take a breath You do not need to change everything overnight. Islam is a religion of ease, not hardship. Allah says in the Quran: “Allah intends ease for you and does not intend hardship for you.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185). Give yourself permission to learn slowly and grow at your own pace. Learn the basics of prayer Salah — the five daily prayers — is the first pillar of Islam after the Shahada. It might feel overwhelming at first but do not worry. Start by learning just one prayer. Watch videos, attend a prayer workshop, or reach out to us at Muslimaat and we will guide you step by step. Find your sisters You do not have to do this alone. One of the greatest gifts of becoming Muslim is the sisterhood you gain. Come to one of our drop-in sessions in Sheffield and meet other new Muslims and sisters who understand exactly how you feel. Be patient with yourself Your journey is unique. You will have good days and hard days. You will have questions and moments of doubt — and that is completely okay. What matters is that you keep going, keep asking and keep turning back to Allah.
